Mikumi National Park
Mikumi is one of the easiest ways to experience a southern Tanzania safari, particularly for travellers starting from Dar es Salaam.
The park’s Mkata Floodplain creates broad open views where elephants, lions, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest and giraffes can often be seen. Its accessibility also makes it useful for shorter safaris and travellers who do not want to spend several days driving between destinations.
Mikumi can stand alone as a short safari or become part of a longer southern route towards Nyerere, Udzungwa and Ruaha.
It is a practical destination, but that does not make the wildlife experience any less rewarding.
Best for:
Short safaris · Dar es Salaam travellers · First southern safari · Wildlife · Families
