Serengeti National Park
The Serengeti is the destination that defines the classic Tanzania safari. Its enormous plains support large populations of wildebeest, zebra, lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants and buffalo, with wildlife moving across the ecosystem throughout the year.
But the Serengeti is not one experience. Where you should stay depends heavily on when you travel. Central Serengeti offers reliable year-round wildlife viewing around the Seronera area. In the south, Ndutu becomes important during the calving season, while the northern Serengeti is where travellers may experience the dramatic Mara River crossings during the migration season.
For a first safari, the Serengeti gives you the scale, wildlife and open landscapes most people imagine when they think of Tanzania.
